ABC Phonics Feed the Monster Game

Feed the Monster and learn your ABCs!

Make learning letters and sounds fun with this hands-on ABC Phonics Feed the Monster Game.

Children can practice recognising uppercase and lowercase letters while matching letters with pictures that represent their correct beginning sounds.

✂️ What to do

  1. Cut out the uppercase and lowercase letter cards and the picture squares.

  2. Carefully cut along the dotted lines to create the monster’s mouth.

  3. For extra durability, glue or attach the monster to a cardboard box.

  4. Cut an opening in the box where the monster’s mouth is positioned.

  5. Children can then feed the monster by posting the cards through his mouth!

How to play

Letter Recognition Game

Place the cards face down in a pile. Players take turns selecting a card.

Before feeding the monster, the child must:

🔤 Say the letter name
🔊 Say the letter sound
👾 Feed the card to the monster!

Picture Sound Game

Choose a picture card and say the name of the picture. Ask:

“What sound can you hear at the beginning?”

Find the matching letter and feed it to the monster!

🎲 Make up your own game!

There are lots of ways to play. You could:

⭐ Match uppercase and lowercase letters
⭐ Match letters to beginning-sound pictures
⭐ Find a particular letter
⭐ Sort letters into groups
⭐ Race to feed the monster
⭐ Take turns choosing cards
⭐ Ask children to give the letter’s sound before feeding it
